Ubicado en la vertiente oriental de la Cordillera Central, en el departamento del Cauca, el Parque Arqueológico de Tierradentro es uno de los parques más representativos del patrimonio prehispánico en Colombia. Declarado Patrimonio Mundial por la UNESCO en 1995, este parque alberga una de las mayores concentraciones de hipogeos —tumbas subterráneas excavadas en roca—, así como esculturas en piedra que evidencian la riqueza cultural y simbólica de una sociedad que habitó la región hace más de 1.400 años. Aunque la existencia de estas monumentales tumbas era conocida desde mucho antes, las investigaciones científicas comenzaron en 1936. Ese año, el geólogo Georg Burg estudió algunos de los hipogeos y el arqueólogo José Pérez de Barradas emprendió excavaciones financiadas por el Ministerio
